Ordering Information

PLACING YOUR ORDER

At Artists Framing we want to make things as simple as possible so you can order in one of tree ways.

1. Call in to see us at our studio with your work or measurements (usually best to give us a quick call first to ensure we can give you our full attention). This is probably the best way to order as we can talk you through all the options and show you first hand all the possible variations available. We can supply you with just the frame or give you the finished product if you leave your picture or item you want framing with us.

2. You can place your order over the phone. Again this is a great way to order, we can talk you through the options and post the frame to you without you having to make the trip to see us.

3. You can use the information contained in the site to compile your order and call fax or e-mail the information through, we will then confirm the order and post the frame to you when it is ready.

All frame orders are very carefully and strongly packed to prevent any breakages during transit, and delivered by special parcel courier service.

PICTURE MOUNTING GUIDE

For customers new to framing pictures, the following information may be useful. Obviously the choice of picture frame moulding makes a very important contribution to the presentation of an artists painting. However, the mount is also an important presentation tool. A picture requires space around it so that the eye is first drawn to the work itself. It is therefore always advisable to use a wide mount in proportion to the picture size, rather than a narrow one. Our standard mount sizes are all calculated to give a reasonable border width, however, as previously stated we will if requested supply border widths to you own specification.

A white or cream toned mount will quite often provide the best combination to compliment your picture, particularly against paintings with predominate colours. A double mount will often further advance the presentation of the piece of work. For instance, a double mount with a dark inner and a pale outer combination will give a feeling of greater dept to pictures of distant landscapes, whilst for still life, or foreground works, a paler inner mount may compliment the picture better. On the other hand, a double mount of matching colours can help to advance the colour tones. Of course there is no hard and fast rule, and at the end of the day, its your preference that matters.

Finally, when mounting your pictures, we suggest that you first assemble the frame with the picture, mount and backboard, close the flexi tabs, but before sealing the back of the frame with tape, carefully examine the front of the work and mount behind the glass to ensure that no specs of dust or paper etc. have stuck to the front of the mount, or picture. There is nothing worse than finally sealing the frame and then having to start again to remove “foreign bodies” from the face of the work.

ORDERING NOTES

The only way to measure a frame size is across the recess (rebate) in the back of the frame, made to hold the glass, mount, picture and backing board, not across the outside of the frame.

BORDER WIDTHS

The above mounts are shown with our standard border widths (equal on all sides). We will also cut mounts to customer’s own widths at no extra cost.

DOUBLE MOUNTS

The outer mount will always be shown in its full width, but with the inner mount, we will normally allow for a 5 mm (3/16”) exposed border next to the picture. If you require a wider inner mount border, please indicate in the space marked “Any Further Information” on the order form.

NON-STANDARD FRAME AND MOUNT SIZES

We can supply frames / mounts to any size not in our lists. To order just write the required size on the form. To cost, add one long and one short frame side together, then compare to the nearest size on the price list. If your size is between those on the list, price at the size above.

Example: 18 x 18 frame = 26” therefore cost at 16 x 12 = 28”

PLEASE NOTE:

1. The strength of any frame is relative to the moulding base width. Therefore some narrow ‘VA’ ref. mouldings are not suitable for frame sizes above 18 x 14 inches, eg. Moulding ref VA105 or VA162

2. All mail order frame sizes above 30 x 20 inches and 60 x 50 cm are fitted with clear plastic glass to avoid damage and for safety.

Stretcher Bars.

If you order any of the frames on this page for canvas on stretcher bars, please note this on the order form and we will fit Z clips to assist you. (does not apply to canvas boards)
